About
Rhea Cai is a Chinese Australian poet and writer based in Sydney. In the day, she works in organisational strategy and workforce design. In all other hours, she’s dreaming of fictional worlds, painting water and flowers, writing poetry, trying to write a novel, and voraciously reading and reviewing books.
She is interested in questions about the unsayable/untranslatable, generational memory, and the diaspora experience. She also enjoys writing speculative fiction about artificial intelligence, consciousness, and the soul.
She has an Honours degree in English Literature from Sydney University, where she also won the Australian Federation of Graduate Women (NSW) Prize for Essays in English (2017 and 2018) and was the University of Sydney Union Creative Awards (Word) Winner in 2017. She has been published in Cordite Poetry and the Australian Poetry Journal, and was longlisted for the Richell Prize in 2026.
